The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy Rule protects
individuals' medical records and other health information, known as protected health
information (PHI). The rule applies to health plans, health care providers, and
clearinghouses.
I am currently undergoing regular treatments for diabetes where you sit alongside
others during the insulin infusions. We were told that because of this setting, we were
under a relaxed version of HIPPA because we were able to talk amongst each other and
share our experiences with people experiencing the same disease.
For this reason and for this platform to work, we have to understand that we can share
our experiences via this forum and waive our HIPPA rights.
Please understand that of you post in any of these echoes, you are technically waiving
your HIPPA rights to privacy, but you may be helping others with your information, and
maybe they can help you as well.
