I've heard that people found that pretty odd, given that the physical copies are code-in-box only.

I also heard that people were disappointed at it not being available on the PC.

For me? I haven't played the rest of the franchise, so don't know why I'd even consider it, at that price.

And even if I _were_ in the market, I'd probably wait and see if it was more like Baldur's Gate 3 (a game where they seemed to respect the player base), or more like a standard game where that $80 or $100 is just the start of them finding ways to extract more money.

I feel like that's a weird way to sell a game. If I'm buying a boxed copy, I'd like it to have a disc; or these days, maybe a USB flash drive with the installer files on it or something.

I also heard that people were disappointed at it not being available on the PC.

That's disappointing.. But I've only ever played the first GTA. I remember playing that on my PC in 1998 or 1999, and it had a 3DFX version, which was pretty cool. I thought it was a fun game.

I have played many of them in PC many years ago. When I bought a PS4 for my kids I bought GTA V and later GTA Online. Really like it. Then later Red Dead Redemption II however I haven't got enough time yet to properly discover it.

TBH - I'm certain GTA VI is going to be watered down BS; not the awesome-sauce GTA V we all WANT to be released... I've heard that Rockstar lost all its edgy programmers and is gonna be DEI BS; guess time will tell.

GTA isn't GTA w/o the raunchy speak and edgy missions - kinda like all the more recent GTA V packs that we've got... I bet 6 is a bunch of lame BS.

At least it will _eventually_ makes its way there, if not immediately.

Oh, and on the good side, I hear that they did not have something where people would pay for earlier access, and that likely left a bit of money on the table in the short term.

(Long term is a different question, as, "screws over customers" may drive people to only playing indies or the exceptions to that rule.)

If it hasn't got all of the politicaly incorrect things that characterized it would be an expensive flop.

    What's the benefit of pre-ordering? It's a downloadable game.

Only a couple things I can think of..

    1) Sometimes it's marked down in price a bit (not much) from what it would be when the game is "released".

    2) Second, sometimes they offer an "early access beta" for pre-ordering; where they have a weekend or two before the release date they make it playable to pre-orders only (which also benefits them to do any minor/major adjustments before the release date they didn't catch).

    3) Sometimes, pre-orders comes with some kind of add-on bundle, where you get custom skins or characters that you wouldn't get on the day of release.

All in all, nothing crazy except to get the die-hards more excited to buy the game early. I can't say I haven't done it before, but it's not much of a difference. ;)

    Regards,
    Nick

First of all, I don't like GTA games much so I am not the target audience. However, lets be real:

They offered trailers but showed no gameplay.

You cannot buy disc copies and are forced into digital licensing. XBOX is a dying platform and Sony is one of the worst stores when it comes to customer service or safety so being forced to play the game through them is awful.

Word on the street is that the 100$ version is the full one and the $80 version is a lite version with existing content removed as a price-bait - price baiting is something fast food chains do, in which they offer you a product they don't want you to buy in order for the product they want to sell to you to look better.

Online seems not to be included from the get go. THey might decide to sell it separatedly.

    Meanwhile:

You can spend less than 30 bucks in BallisticNG and play the damn thing for months. Then you can spend less than 30 bucks on Distance and play the damn thing until your thumbs fall off. You get the idea.

Yeah I am the happy guy in all the parties.

I feel like that's a weird way to sell a game. If I'm buying a boxed copy, I'd like it to have a disc; or these days, maybe a USB flash drive with the installer files on it or something.

That is because it is no way to sell a game. It is a way to license it.

Sony has declared they are done selling games on discs. They are phasing the practice out and closing the factories as we speak. The issue is they don't want to sell discs but they don't want to lose impulse buys from people grabbing the games from a shelf - which, contrary to what statistics might make you think, is a big driver of game sales for big titles.

Therefore, the best idea Sony could come up with was to have the game licenses for sale in stores, so kids at a market or store can pester their parents to buy the game for them. But then, there is no disc inside, which means no second hand market, no lending to friends and now Sony has leverage on you because you can only play your library of games through them.

I tend to agree it s not going to be the genuine thing. Then, I must say I didn't like the genuine thing. I don't like games that glorify the gansta' lifestyle and for all the edginess they boast, all the cheap shots go to collectives which are safe to mock.

If it hasn't got all of the politicaly incorrect things that characterized it would be an expensive flop.

Considering the amount of markettechnics that have been thrown behind the game, I think it is very unlikely the game will lose money. However, I think it is extremely likely it will not match the investor's expectations.

You know, much like when Apple says they are going to sell 12 million iPhones, they sell 11 instead and the stock crashes.

The problem is that with the information we have, we can conclude the budget thrown behind the game is massive and they need massive sales for it to ven break even. The issue is the PS5 is not as popular a console as previous PlayStations were and much less people have it, therefore I think they are counting on people buying new PS5 units specifically in order to play GTA VI in order for the numbers to make sense. With the current prices of hardware I think it is unlikely to happen in big enough numbers.

Also, I think the interest in the game is high but not as high as the marketing wants you to believe. People who are not gamers already are not going to buy a PS5 in order to play this game - in fact people who aren't gamers are unlikely to even know the game exists. People expecting this game are primarily existing GTA fans as far as I can tell. That is a solid base to work with - hence why I think the game won't flop - but I cannot see this pulling new gamers into the hobby - which is what the marketing material says this game is gonna do.
