Yeah pretty cool stuff. Stingray has been codeing his butt off lately doing all kinds of stuff. The BBS scene has been pretty amazing lately with all the cool stuff coming out.

Right? It was fun watching Episode 1, Back to the BBS, on a BBS in sixel. Who knew ... I just added A-Net game server too .. will work on updating the RCS Game Menu Mod to include it in future releases (Will take a while with all the door codes ..) But great stuff Mr. Stingray is doing for the community! It's super nice to see doors coming out that will support alternate software too. I also never thought I'd see MRC on my WWIV BBS but I do now ..

That's why I prefer BBS' over the rest of the net: none of that AI SLOP clogging everything up and confusing people. You can no longer tell what's real and what's not thanks to that garbage.

Great work for sure. It was super fun watching 80's rock band videos on the BBS yesterday! Really motivated me to get back to freshening up The Underground .. I had not played with Sixel at all other than what I've seen on other BBSes with image galleries. Who knew it could do video on a BBS too! Thanks for the contribution, it's really slick.

Yeah there is a lot of junk AI videos on most video services these days .. youtube, rumble, twitch, etc... I tend to only use any of them for targeted content such as "Sig P365 Gun Review" or "Back to the BBS documentary" otherwise I get overwhelmed with crappy content. Thank you for the kind words!! I am happy when my ideas come to life.

Most welcome! I am pleased to hear the positive reviews. I just updated and released the source code as well. So all versions are available on my website adn github.

The packages on my website come with the required ffmpeg and yt-dlp needed software, but they are too large to add on github.

It took a TON of trial and error.... lol I should have screen recorded my first 20 versions.. lol

I wish something else supported sixel besides that aweful syncterm. I miss mTelnet, but use Netrunner because I like the upscale look of the fonts in it compared to the rest of the telnet apps. Wish Netrunner would go open source.

Also would be nice to see locally. Sixel reminds me of RIP where its all fun and cool for the user, but the sysop sees crap. <G>

Why do you think SyncTerm is awful?

Because it installs all of its "hidden" shit on Drive C: and does not give you an option to change this.

The font upscaling is not the greatest. As much as I hate Mystic and NetRunner, I do love how it makes the fonts look and it's close to the feel of mTelnet.

It also does not run on Win7, so it's a pain in the ass to switch to another PC to dial out.

Because it installs all of its "hidden" shit on Drive C: and does not give you an option to change this.

What hidden stuff (and what do you mean by hidden)? I actually haven't used an installer for it; normally I just unzip the archive somewhere, and the only things I've seen of it are its program files and the settings file(s) it puts in a subdirectory of your user directory, which is fairly common and normal for software to do. I'm using Linux now, and I've seen the same thing there, just its executable and settings file(s) in a subdirectory from my home directory.

I was talking about the place where you downloaded SyncTerm itself. But as far as the download directory in SyncTerm, you definitely can change that. Within the settings of a BBS entry in SyncTerm, there is a Download Path setting; there's also a setting for that in the program defaults in SyncTerm. It's not hard coded. Did you explore the settings in SyncTerm? Those settings are fairly easy to see if you open up the settings and explore..

Also, it's fairly common on multiple operating systems to have a Downloads subdirectory in the user's personal directory. In addition to Windows, I've seen that on Linux, and it's the same on Mac OS too.

I tend to like downloads going elsewhere too, but I think the idea of using your own personal home directory is that if you want to back up your stuff, you could back up your home folder and have all your stuff if you need to re-install your OS, etc..

I don't really understand your complaints, since the setting can be changed, and the download folder is a fairy common thing across multiple operating systems (it's not just a "stupid Windows folder").

YT likes to push shorts because most younger people don't have the attention span to interact with longer-form content. A couple of creators I follow have complained about that because it has made it more difficult to get longer-form content monetized. One of them started doing shorts to complement their longer videos, and the other (whose videos were usually under 5 minutes anyways) started posting their existing content as shorts.

I recently fired up facebook again for the sake of interacting with my dad via messenger, which he decided is the only method of communication he'll use with all of us siblings, and in part to scroll through Facebook Market place for retro gear. I noticed that facebook has managed to spy beyond from within it's app, as I was searching for a chiropractor within Safari (on my iPhone) and Facebook started showing spine shorts / videos / ads to me. In addition I often search questions customers have on hardware parts (I manage a hardware store,) Facebook picks up on those too and begins showing me related do it yourself ads and content.

Youtube seems less invasive, however the generalized "feed" they prescribe to me is full of ai garbage for sure. I like watching "how to" videos and not much else on Youtube. It will be nice to do so on a BBS where hopefully I'm less "tracked" than through a browser.

It seems to have figured out that I like Hannah Fry and Amy Shira Tit (sp?). Lately, when I open the YT app on my phone, about 50% of the time it will automatically play a video from one of them without me searching for or clicking on one.

Haha .. yeah this likely is the one time I don't mind AI being
predictive; at least it's showing me good content. However I still

I think this is part of why I've been using the term, "AI" less and less.

Because this just sounds like a recommendation algorithm, rather than anything that's an LLM or genAI.

I mean, they probably _could_ use an LLM, but it'd be worse and less efficient than having some sort of well-tuned algorithm.

(Regardless, I'm glad the recommendations are working for you.)

"Windoze XP" runs Fidonet Zone 1.... and you would be quick with the comments if it ever stopped working.

    Well - I like XP m0re than 10/11!! :P

    Same - I <3 SyncTERM.

I _use_ SyncTERM, but struggle with not having figured out why pasting is failing.

At least on my Mystic BBS.

    Theres a control code you can send thru the terminal to users when they connect that turns it on. I run it in my startup.mps/mpx;

    writeLn('^[[?1000l') //Syncterm Mouse Control Code

NOTE: That "^[[" part has to be a control code - and I forget right now how you enter it in a text editor like vim/nano... gosh; some keypress like CTRL+X, or ALT+X??

Maybe someone can chime in about that - but the above writeln in startup.mps/mpx will get SyncTERM mouse stuff working. :P

It definitely is. Your account is not attached to it and neither is the sysops. There are also no ads! I don't know how that got pulled off..

I'm not sure it's a bug in SyncTerm, as I've never seen the issue, but were to ask in the Synchronet IRC channel, I'm sure the authors could t help you resolve the issue if you wanted to try using SyncTerm again.

Not worth the trouble, as you seen how this blew out of porportion. :)
I don't like it's UI, so I probably would never use it anyways.

not really sure why people like that ugly Netware interface. it already seemed like Novell was lazy and just slapped that together

I'm not either, but there really isn't much in the way of options. Termina
tor is ok, but there's no hotkey to exit or hang up. Icyterm no longer has a hotkey for full screen and netrunner is outdated for the ssh usage I do. Syncterm also doesn't support ssh's that the bbs software doesn't handle natively by allowing alt-l to enter credentials...
