installed it on my BBS and WOW, I never thought I'd see a day of surfing YouTube and watching videos right from a Mystic BBS -- but here we are! Great work !! Anyone else running this door?
Yeah pretty cool stuff. Stingray has been codeing his butt off lately doing all kinds of stuff. The BBS scene has been pretty amazing lately with all the cool stuff coming out.

Yeah it's very cool. I think someone just posted the link to it, but if not I'll track it down for ya ... great door he put together. One more reason to not have to surf the internet is always a great add to BBSing!

That's great. Always love seeing new things for the BBS Scene. As long
as AI is kept completely OUT of the picture. That's why I prefer BBS'
over the rest of the net: none of that AI SLOP clogging everything up
and confusing people. You can no longer tell what's real and what's not thanks to that garbage. ---

I have a love/hate relationship with AI. It can be a great tool for certain things but I agree with what you say. So many youtube videos are AI generated. If i come across them I will not watch them. Basically people using it to produce crappy videos to generate money.
the link given just points to a 404 page. Guess you need to register with the BBS to access it. Not a problem but currently too much going on for me to take time right now. When I get the time I'll look at it. Sounds awesome, though.

I installed it on my BBS yesterday - It's pretty cool. :) I didn't think sixel graphics could be refreshed quickly enough to play a video that way, though I suppose today's broadband connections are plenty fast for that.

Thank you for the kind words!! I am happy when my ideas come to life.
Assisting with coding is one thing about it that doesn't bother me much. Using it to create audio and video of events that never happened is something else. I was at a parent's house over the weekend. They get a bunch of political ads that I don't. Every single one was AI
generated... sometimes putting their opponent into situations that
they've never been in.
Thank you for the kind words!! I am happy when my ideas come to life.
Great work for sure. It was super fun watching 80's rock band videos on the BBS yesterday! Really motivated me to get back to freshening up The Underground .. I had not played with Sixel at all other than what I've seen on other BBSes with image galleries. Who knew it could do video on a BBS too! Thanks for the contribution, it's really slick.

I miss mTelnet, but use Netrunner because I like the
upscale look of the fonts in it compared to the rest of the
telnet apps. Wish Netrunner would go open source.

Why do you think SyncTerm is awful?
What's awful about SyncTERM??? Best client going.
It's *WAY* old, just like Mystic, and like most all closed source software.
Nahh ... Thats like the people saying Terminate was awesome, when I was usin FD /TERM as my dailer which was awesome for it's time. Read my reply to

Because it installs all of its "hidden" shit on Drive C: and does not
give you an option to change this.

Same - I <3 SyncTERM.
Yeah there is a lot of junk AI videos on most video services these days .. youtube, rumble, twitch, etc... I tend to only use any of them for targeted content such as "Sig P365 Gun Review" or "Back to the BBS documentary" otherwise I get overwhelmed with crappy content. And how the heck youtube knows I like blondes is beyond me :)

Oh, don't get my wrong, Mystic is garbage, but he did do one thing nice with netrunner is the font upscaling is 1000000x better than any

Yup, those, and no way to change those. I want the download directory to be different, can't change it, hard coded to a stupid windows folder called downloads. Who the hell uses that?
It also does not run on Win7, so it's a pain in the ass to switch to another PC to dial out.

far as the download directory in SyncTerm, you definitely can change that. Within the settings of a BBS entry in SyncTerm, there is a Download Path
Also, it's fairly common on multiple operating systems to have a Downloads subdirectory in the user's personal directory. In addition to Windows, I'v seen that on Linux, and it's the same on Mac OS too.

Yeah I know ... any changes to paths do not stay, amd I find it nuts I have to change EVERY one I add instead of a global change like any other software.
The authors of SyncTerm are very responsive, and I'm sure they'd welcome a report or questions about that issue.

Posted it about 7 months ago, fell of deaf ears and then my bug report was closed and disappeared from the site. So I gave up. Not my fight.
I'm not sure it's a bug in SyncTerm, as I've never seen the issue, but if y were to ask in the Synchronet IRC channel, I'm sure the authors could try t help you resolve the issue if you wanted to try using SyncTerm again.
It seems to have figured out that I like Hannah Fry and Amy Shira Titel (sp?). Lately, when I open the YT app on my phone, about 50% of the
time it will automatically play a video from one of them without me searching for or clicking on one.
One is a redhead and the other a brunette, but they both talk science so maybe that is my thing. :D
syncterm 1.1 runs on Win7. I have it on my Win7 VM.

Haha .. yeah this likely is the one time I don't mind AI being
predictive; at least it's showing me good content. However I still
don't get the "shorts .." I'm always getting a brunette farmer in
overalls and nothing else, doing stupid stuff for a few seconds .. I
don't like farmers, nor brunettes .. At least it's not end of the world garbage though.

Hehe .. I think the algo must review (something unrelated (science, computers, camping, etc..)) we watch, predicts we are guys, then starts feeding the AI Cinemax style videos in our feed...
Maybe your teenage son has been using your computer. LOL!
So far, those are not the ones they auto-feed to me on YT. Some of them do show up to be selected, though. Facebook, OTOH, always pushes that style of video at me. ;)

"Windoze XP" runs Fidonet Zone 1.... and you would be quick with the comments if it ever stopped working.

I _use_ SyncTERM, but struggle with not having figured out why pasting is failing.
At least on my Mystic BBS.
Youtube seems less invasive, however the generalized "feed" they prescribe to me is full of ai garbage for sure. I like watching "how to" videos and not much else on Youtube. It will be nice to do so on a BBS where hopefully I'm less "tracked" than through a browser.

You will have to keep us posted in regards to whether or not that turns out to be the case!
It definitely is. Your account is not attached to it and neither is the sysops. There are also no ads! I don't know how that got pulled off..

I don't like it's UI, so I probably would never use it anyways.
