Since my bbs software package does not natively read pipe colors. I was thinking it would be great if an offline mail reader could translate
pipe colors as an optional feature.

I made an offline mail reader recently (modeled basically after Digital Distortion Message Reader & SlyEdit) that can interpret pipe codes & other attribute codes and translate them to colors:
